Ken Sphire

Ken Sphire spent his childhood growing up in Kentucky and later went to college in Lawrence, Kansas as a "voice major".  Ken's early years in Kentucky exposed him to Bluegrass music compelling him to study the banjo and fiddle.  He will be the first to relate that his life has been blessed with the association of great instructors such as Dwight Lamb, National Fiddle Champion, who loved to simply teach an eager young man the heart and  history of "old-style" American music.     After college Ken studied flute with master flute professionals before immersing himself in the Delta Blues and techniques of the Dobro all while becoming a resident of New Orleans.  His parents loved the Jazz giants of Ellington, Porter, Bassie and Kenton.  Jazz was foremost in Ken's life for many years.  Eventually all these styles, along with 12 instruments evolved into a great moving musical force.  Ken eventually performed all around the world.  (9 countries and 28 states)

Ken is a multi-instrumentalist with a passion for performing a wide variety of musical styles from Island music, Jazz, Top 40, to Country & Bluegrass.  Ken is comfortable with any musical genre.  He performs as both a soloist and a member of an ensemble.

After moving to Florida in 1982, Ken met Mike Caso.  He soon became a member of his band known a the “Garage Band”.  Soon after, Mike and Ken became a duo that evolved into the local band know as "Parallel". Eddie Uzzle later joined "Parallel" in 1990 and since then the band has become somewhat of an "icon" in the Daytona Beach area. Mike and Ken have performed together for over 25 years in the local area as well as out to the area on occasions.  Currently Ken does a solo act as well as performing in the Ponce Inlet area with the bands "Parallel" (Mike, Eddie & Ken),  "Nearly Famous" (Steve and Ken) and "Three Bad Habits" (Eddie, Steve and Ken).
